DSCN0391 Video Marketing Tip for Local Brick and Mortar Business

Local Brick and Mortar Business Needing Traffic

I was helping a local brick and mortar business the other day. It is one man shop without any online presence. The specific niche is two fold as it has a dual offering. It is a local Ottawa Pawn shop. One aspect of the business is booming. That is providing short term loans to people in exchange for goods of value used as collateral. Certain times of the year, there are more people looking for loans than those looking for purchasing used goods.(at least in the Ottawa area)

The second aspect of the shop is to sell used second hand objects to bargain shoppers. It is usually high end product as that is what people can exchange for money. You can find things like used music instruments, used electronics, used sporting goods, used DVDs and games, great estate jewelery and every handy-man’s tool under the sun.

Two Different Markets

The way I saw it, the shop keeper needed to market differently to those purchasing than to those coming in for a loan or to sell their old stuff. He was very successful for those seeking money but his shelves were over flowing with stock. To get the ball rolling since he has no website or web presence was to start with a series of short videos in a video marketing campaign targeting local buying words. We will see what unfolds in the weeks to come.

Easy Video Marketing Tip For Local Search

Setting up a few videos is an easy first step. Use tools like Animoto or keynote and professional looking short videos can be made in no time. The biggest time investment would be getting images and content for the business that their target market is looking for and of course Keyword research with good optimizing of the videos. Once you have that done making the video with Animoto can be done in 10 minutes.

Take a look.

Google Organic Local Search

I had this on the front page of Google with organic local search for 3 terms within 2 hours of posting. That is the grace period of Google. If I play my cards right in promoting it, it will most likely stay there for awhile until other local businesses decide to invest in their online marketing. In the meantime I would love it if  you could give the video some love for me and watch it on Youtube until the end and then rate it and leave a comment.

If you haven’t given Animoto a try go do it. The free version is super. If you think you will be making more than 10 videos then you can get a year’s subscription to the service for $30. You can’t lose. When you get one up come and tell me about it.

Thanks for dropping by. I would love to know what you would do to get a brick and mortar business online in a hurry until other things get put in place. Please tell me in the comments if  you have any great ideas.

The fastest way I can think of to help a local business is to create some videos. The other thing I encourage is to build up the relationship they already have with their current customers by providing value through email marketing.

There are 2 ways to make more money. Get more customers and make more money from your current customers. I find most online businesses do a poor job of email marketing.

Rebecca, I think video is a powerful marketing tool. Most people are visual, so if you can get your message across in a way that resonates with the targeted demographic, you’ll do very well.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Rebecca:

Well, that video made ME want to shop there. Of course, I’m a guitar nut! I am already signed up for Animoto, but this post has give me some inspiration for some other videos. I could even market my brick and mortar music studio with one. Thanks for sharing!

Wishing you a song in your heart,
    Leslie

Hi Rebecca, Too fun! If I were in the market for a guitar, I would make a visit!
You took a business with a problem, analyzed it, and solved it! Great job!
And I learned about a new tool! How cool!
I’ll be watching for a follow up post to learn how they are doing!

Hi Rebecca, awesome post. Looks like you created a winner here. If you are looking at making a lot of videos, I would get a flip camera, so that you can make some other videos as well. I would divide the videos between Facebook and YouTube to get as much exposure as possible. Than I would create a website where I would post all the relevant information that interested buyers would like to see. Use the videos to stear them to the website. The info is free, but you have to sign up to see it.
An alternative to video that works well right now is mobile marketing. The advantage here is also that you don’t need a website to be successful.

Now I just need a good cheap priced but highly quality webcam to produce these videos with. But Also I have an idea you might try it’s a live broadcast using a webcam and headset and mike and a tool called usteam.tv
