I was on Twitter the other day talking with a few of my local friends like @LisaLarter and was checking out Peggy McColl’s Viral Explosions’ Book Launch that was taking place in my town. For some reason I had missed the fact that it is a huge event with 15 top speakers on viral marketing, success coaching and social media. Even @MariSmith is coming! I have no idea how I missed this detail. I was so excited to be able to get in on the early bird special that I started tweeting about it on Twitter and all of a sudden we had a Twitter party on the go in the Twitterverse. We were joking, exchanging agendas and getting introduced to each other’s Twitter friends.
Twitter is an easy platform to get on and requires only a few minutes before you can start connecting and tweeting with people. I have been on it for about a year and a half. In fact I think it was because of @MariSmith that I opened my first Twitter account.
So at this Twitter party of the other night… a few really cool things happened. One of the things I am busy with online is sourcing top people to be interviewed for an internet radio station I am working with. The easy access of the social platforms and especially of Twitter is phenomenal. The other day @MariSmith was tweeting about being at a T. Harv Eker course so I started probing her with questions. I have done a few of his courses and am always blown away by them. I probably would not be here writing this if it were not for him.
I have been trying t figure out my tactic for getting Harv on the radio but am still just 2 degrees separated….no direct contact. Caught up in Mari’s excitement of being at Harv’s event, and using his famous words of wisdom “Just Fricken’Do It”, I did just that and sent him the invitation in a tweet. Within the minute I had a DM with a way to make it happen. I was so thrilled.
I was really wanting to get @MariSmith too so I figured if Harv said yes, there was a good chance she would too. Of course she said yes. Here is a secret for you: Mari is launching her new book Facebook Marketing: An Hour a Day in May so lots of great media coverage for her is perfect at this time. You can’t even buy it yet only pre-order.
I am telling you all this to set the context of the power of Twitter. To recap for you: On Twitter, I found out about this event going on in my town. I verified its quality amongst friends. I purchased the ticket. I had fun celebrating online as I was so excited that this was local. I lined up a few amazing people to be on our show. One of them, @AprilClineVideo I am going to write about in a separate blog as she has some interesting ideas on using video in lieu of sales pages. She is the one who made the promotional video on Peggy McColl’s event page if you checked it out.
Are you using Twitter yet? If you need any help getting started just drop me a line. I can point you in the right direction. Be sure to keep it fun.
