Step 1 of 3-Step Marketing for Non-Marketers Online and Off

Marketing and Focus

I was speaking with the 3 Step Marketing PRO, Charlene Brisson the other day about what she was up to since leaving her role as Director of Sales and Marketing for T. Harv Eker’s Peak Potentials. Before leaving she had increased N.A. show up rates from 50% to 95% which is no small task for large rooms in an economic downturn. I was curious to know about her latest marketing ventures as she is certainly a person I like to learn from.

Keeping Connected to the Focus

I first met Charlene at Peak’s Enlightened Warrior Training Camp where we did a 26ft barefoot fire walk together to learn about focus and fear. She was telling about her 3 Step Marketing programs and e-book she was publishing. It got me thinking about the power of focus and clarity.

Marketing for non-marketers and marketers (her teleseminar) is all about focus whether it is online or offline. Without the focus you can spin your wheels with a lot of ineffective marketing, wasting valuable resources like your time and money. This is true for solo-preneurs as well as large companies.

What is Marketing?

Marketing is the activity a business does to find and bring in a customer prior to making a sale. It’s main focus is in establishing and maintaining relationships with “ideal clients” for the business. The focus has to be on connecting all communication, products and services to what the client needs and wants. There is no point in doing anything online if your customer does not use the internet for example. Now that we have a basic understanding of what marketing means lets get to where to start.

Step 1

Get focused! Find your buyers now. Know your who your “target market”, “ideal client”, “audience”, “customer profile”, “prospect”. “niche”, or “segment” is (they all mean the same thing). It is most important before anything else to know who they are, with as much detail as possible regarding demographics, psychographics and geographics. Think about which client you would like to have more of and this is the “ideal client” you are going to be focusing all your marketing activities on to connect with. Creating a solid relationship foundation is one of the main keys to successful marketing which brings business success. Marketing is the tool to make money. If your message is not getting out and being received then even if you have the best product, service, or deal around no one is going to be calling you up.

  • demograhics~info you can find in census reports
  • psychographics~lifestyle behaviours your “ideal client” expresses
  • geographics~ physical location. If you are an offline business you want to keep this very narrow when starting out.

You need to gather enough information to gather clues on how you will market and which marketing tactics/tools you will use to do so. Charlene told me that she had not been able to find a source that provided a great selection of marketing tactics/tools so had spent the past 2 years writing an e-book listing 148 tactics/tools to choose from for your marketing strategies. I think she even had to set it up to be a growing concern. When she first spoke to me it was 101 marketing tactics and when she finally made it available it was 148. You can check it out here if you want. She has some really outrageous campaigns documented.

I will tell you about Step 2:Crafting a message that speaks to your “ideal client” in my next post so stay tuned. Charlene Brisson the 3 Step Marketing Pro is all about keeping it simple and making it effective. How can marketing get any simpler than that: 3 Steps? I got a sneak peak of the first few chapters of her book and can’t wait to see the rest.

It's neat that it can be broken down to a 3-Step process since that seems manageable for all to get there arms around. We look forward to your posts of Steps 2 and 3.
Thanks for the valuable content, Rebecca!

Nice post Rebecca! You are so right that you have to know who your target market or customer is before you begin an effective campaign. Good points here:) I look forward to the next steps in this process.

These are all things I have learned from Charlene. What I like about is that it is timeless information regardless of the tools available to us. She keeps it always simple and very focused.

    Rebecca,
Great tips on what to focus on first when starting any business. You have to know who your clients/customers will be before you can create anything for them. Connections are so important.

    Thanks so much for sharing,
    Val

    Hey Rebecca,

Awesome post. Thanks for the valuable information. This is definitely a reminder that I needed to hear. Too many people have no clue as to who their ideal client / customer is. I look forward to the next installments. Thanks again.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,

Yes Edward and from what I am gathering, the more specific you can be the more successful you will be. My first online teacher Simon U Ford always said ” an inch wide a mile deep”. If you ever speak with Charlene, she could tell you things about dress and hygiene and transportation of her ideal clients. Whether she is doing consultation for a solopreneur or a big brand company she always always has them start here. I find it very interesting.
