Finding a Niche For Your Marketing Campaigns
The other day I spoke about why you need to do market research using keywords for competition and demand analysis before you do any marketing online. This keyword research is also done for defining your niche marketing and developing possible micro niches.
One of my friends and life mentors died last week. I wrote about her in my very very first blog post called getting connected in the new mediascape with social media. She was a top notch specialist in her niche of being a party in a box at any and all events. I thought it fitting to tell you about her and her niche marketing strategies and her niche marketing forums etc to illustrate how one niche can have such a variety of micro niches to explore you can spend a lifetime doing it.
Find A Niche
I had this friend Claire (who was a middle-aged woman with Downs Syndrome) and if you ever met her you would know upon first greeting that she was laser focused and passionate beyond all measure about her niche. Where she came up with her niche idea I will never know but I can tell you it happened to be parties; birthday parties specifically and in practice hers; which was always comin’ up. I would suggest that it is certainly more fun if you are on fire passionate about your niche but in affiliate marketing it is not necessary. It is just a place to start from when you do your market research. Claire was not a marketer per se but she certainly exemplified a lot of the traits that marketers aspire to.
Niche Marketing Strategies
Part of your strategy when marketing to your niche is to define exactly who your market is so that you can speak with them in a language they can relate to and provide a solution to their problems or an attractive benefit to their desires. Claire’s overall strategy was to find the people who liked to celebrate and convert them to being her fans, servants or allies. She came to any event prepared to celebrate. She would always use the opportunity for her to meet the decision makers. Her first goal would be to size up the room and position herself accordingly beside the person who held the seat of power. This would give her both the attention of the decision makers and that of potential prospects (future partiers).
In online marketing, decision makers are those who have the credit card and or have influence with other decision makers. Your job is to get them to pay attention to your message. The diversity of groups on the various social media platforms are great places to find them. Go in and explore and start socializing with like minded people. Pay attention to them and you never know, they may just want to check out
Recruiting Prospects and Raving Fans in Your Niche Market
Claire was so good at creating an experience of party that even in the most boring meetings, she had the ability to call forth anyone in the group who preferred fun to mundane to rise up. She was very charismatic and if her air of celebration didn’t work she had many tools of manipulation that charmed even the most resistant. Most of the meetings that Clair attended were events where the people who were there shared a passion for parties.
Go where your market is and either provide a solution to their pain (relief from boredom in Claire’s case) or an offer of pleasure. Claire went to my friend’s wedding and took the opportunity to dance with every single man that was there. At the end of the evening, to get around the effects of her crippling arthritis she did this sitting in a wheel chair rather than giving up.
Niche Market Examples
Some of the micro niche markets I have named so far for Claire’s theme of “Parties” are:
- parties
- birthday parties
- my birthday
- your birthday
- parties to break the boredom of Monday morning meetings
- your wedding party is my manhunt party
- dance til you drop parties
- hob nobbing parties
- brand awareness parties
Some others that I had the pleasure of attending that I have not mentioned are:
- Canada Day parties
- Christmas Day is just another day to celebrate my birthday is commin’up (in August) party
- I’m wearing black shoes party
- funeral parties
- waiting for the bus, lobby parties
- seniors high tea parties
- pizza and beer parties
- colouring parties
As you can see there are many possibilities when you start your market research using keywords. Claire invented hers along the way. Her message remained consistent….lets party…”my birthday is commin’up!” I hope you have tried out the free trial of Market Samurai as you will find many many variations on the keywords you may want to use when setting up your online niche marketing. You will certainly discover many great possible micro niches that have enough competition to make it worth developing but not too much that it is impossible to get into the marketplace.
My friend Claire had recruited so many partiers into her life that even though many people were on vacation at the time of her death, there was standing room only at her death bed , her funeral service and the party afterward. All was done in full Claire style with dancing and singing and lots and lots of story telling. Good keyword research into niche markets and micro niches may have you being found for years to come so please invest the time and fully explore it the way that Claire explored the various ways to make life a party.
