Marketing Your Business at Live Events
Marketing online is important and has changed the way the world does business today. Social media has made it easy to network and meet people from around the world or across town but it is essential to take those relationships offline and meet face to face whenever you can. Meeting face to face is where the gold is made. There is something in the face to face meeting that really gives the opportunity to build more trust and to see if you really like the person that is in front of you and if they like you. Even traditionally big business makes the deals on the golf course or at the dinner events. This still remains true today.
Whether you are just starting your business or have multiple ones, make sure that you are going out on a regular basis to meet people face to face. Always go prepared to add value to people’s lives. You can even be very strategic with this by finding out where the people you want to meet are going and go there. Go prepared by finding out as much as you can about them beforehand including what they may be needing.
Internet Marketing Super Event 2010
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure and privilege of traveling across the continent to meet face to face with some of the best internet marketing experts on the web thanks to Gabe Strom. I had no idea what was in store for me but am glad I made it happen. The main trainers were Bill Crosby (a wickedly smart marketing scientist), Roland Frasier (an SEO genius and reformer lawyer), Dutch Mendenhall (a down and dirty business brillliance) and Gabe Strom (business building with inspired integrity) with guest appearances from a Kajabi creator and Ted McGrath.
I wanted to share some of the lessons I took home that really echoed with me. Dutch Mendenhall; who did the backend for the event, is a man who built his business offline in commercial real estate by hosting events. He was not born into his success. Dutch was orphaned at a young age but had a drive to change his lot in life. He has built a multi-million dollar business that affords him 4-6 months off a year and is continuing to create ways to better his business and help others build theirs as well.
I wasn’t too sure what to make of this guy at first and was very very skeptical but the event allowed for several one on one interactions and round table workgroups where I had the opportunity of learning from him first hand. He is definitely a brilliant and very aggressive businessperson who has a huge ability to find and develop out the profit centres in any business by drilling down deep. I wanted to share with you a couple of the key learnings he imparted to the group.
3 Key Points for Making Money With Your Business
- It is essential to make sure you are the centre operating hub of your business at all times. When you get off track by either following a shiny object or working in depth on a detail of a project that belongs to somebody else even, your business suffers. Stay focused and when you are called off track make sure that you have the project set it up so it does not consume you and get you off the centre of your business. Dutch used the image of a wheel hub with many spokes moving outward with you in the middle. It is imperative to remain the centre of influence and interaction for your business if you want to see success with it.
- The best way to make money is to sandwich yourself in between the need and the solution. I personally loved this one. It makes a lot of sense as well especially online. People are looking for solutions and if you know where to find them they are more than willing to pay for them. This actually makes a win win win situation which sounds great to me.
- When starting out on a new project or if you are just starting your business take inventory. Take stock of all your connections and contacts. This is where you start always. It is a lot easier and cheaper to get a door opened with a personal contact than without one. People that already know like and trust you will be much more open to doing things with or for you than they will to those they have yet to establish relationships with.
Networking
There was a very small select group of us who had the opportunity to attend this live marketing event. Some where just thinking about starting a business while others were wanting to build theirs to the next level. All the presenters were available to the participants and prepared to share their wealth of knowledge freely. Since all of them were very savvy business people, they were well aware of the 6 degrees of separation that Dutch said was actually only 2.
Even though some like to use the term “Guru” they did not at any moment present themselves in this manner. All came to the table with an intent to serve. They all held the belief that in helping you build your business would help them build theirs. For those of us who were closer to the beginning of the business development, this was a priceless opportunity. From where I stand, this is one of the Blue Ocean strategies these guys are focused on developing.
From the small group participants that did show up to this event, we know that there were the initial threads of the warp of life being woven. We will certainly be deepening these relationships as each of our business journeys develop and expand.
As one last key point that you may want to consider when building your business strategy is this Blue Ocean strategy. Where can you zig while everyone else is zagging?
