Leveraging Video for Online PR
Whether you have a brick and mortar business or an online shop, live events are great opportunities to make videos and take lots of pictures. These can all be used to create online content and extend your reach and brand your business. This weekend I had the opportunity to attend the World Championships of Slalom Skateboarding which was held in Ottawa Canada this year. Sk8board fanatics of all ages came from all over the world to compete. The pros were sponsored and teams came representing different sk8 shops and companies. Brands could be seen on boards, helmets, T-shirts, you name it. It is a very particular niche.
I took the time to watch, take pictures and speak with some of the people who came from other places. I did a short video interview with a team manager who came from California with a group of 10-15 sk8ers. She runs an online sk8 shop called sk8kings skateboard company with her husband Richy who was one of the oldest pro sk8ers in attendance.

Making Content
This is a simple video that lets us meet one of the owners of this business and give us a feel of what she is all about. What I wanted to underline here was that it is really simple to take your flip cam or your phone and do quick little videos wherever you are. Any important event you attend is an opportunity to share with your followers and brand your company. Taking your pictures and videos and sharing them in various content forms online whether it be on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook or Youtube or by embedding them on your website or blog is an excellent way to connect as well as increase your virtual footprint with backlinks.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Keep it fresh. Remember your keywords and your audience. Keep it fun. What kind of events do you find yourself at that get you taking pictures or videos? Have you figured out how to best leverage them for your business goals? Please feel free to share a few examples in the comment section. Or do you think that live events have nothing to do with your branding at all?
